Santa Cruz Skateboards teamed up with Pokémon again and the drop hit that perfect mix of nostalgia and graphic chaos.

The crossover of skate heritage with global pop culture should not work as well as it does, but somehow it always lands. Skate decks as collectible art continues to be a thing and nobody is complaining.

Skateshop Day 2026 is all about showing love to the independent skate shops that keep skate culture alive. Not the mega retailers. Not the algorithms. The real-life spots where scenes are built.

If you’ve ever bought your first board or just hung out in a shop talking about all things skate, you already know why this day matters.

What is Skateshop Day?

Skateshop Day is a global celebration of independent skate shops. It’s a reminder that skateboarding comes from people and places, not just products. Local shops support scenes, sponsor riders, and create space for new skaters to feel welcome.

Why it matters.

Running an independent skate shop right now isn’t easy. Rents are up, costs are wild, and online giants make it harder for small businesses to compete. But local skate shops are still out here:

• Sponsoring local skaters

• Putting on jams and events

• Creating safe spaces (especially for girls and marginalised skaters)

• Keeping skate culture community-led

When you support your local, you’re backing all of that.

What actually happens on the day?

No two shops celebrate the same. Expect things like:

• In-store hangouts

• Skate jams at local parks

• Giveaways and limited drops

• Stickers, free grip, good vibes

It’s less about sales, more about scene energy.

Who’s it for?

Everyone.

How to get involved

You don’t have to go big:

• Pop into your local skate shop

• Buy something small if you can

• Bring a friend who’s new to skating

• Post your local and tag them

• Show love IRL

What I didn’t realise then was that I had already clocked my future local.

It wasn’t until I had skated there a handful of times that it hit me. Standing at the top of the park and looking around at the layout below, I had a strange sense of déjà vu. Then it clicked. Wait… I have been here before. That fleeting glimpse from the train had come full circle.

Since then, Truro Skatepark has become a standout spot in Cornwall’s skate scene, not just for me, but for so many others. The concrete layout flows effortlessly from one section to the next, creating a space that feels both expansive and approachable. It is the kind of park where beginners can build confidence, and more experienced skaters can link lines and push their progression.

What really makes Truro special is the atmosphere.

There is a genuine sense of community that runs through the sessions. Locals and university students mix naturally, people hype each other up, share tips, and celebrate new tricks together. It is supportive without being intimidating, a space where showing up is enough.

Female skaters are increasingly claiming space here too. Groups of girls roll in together, backing each other, sharing laughs between attempts, and turning sessions into something bigger than just landing tricks. It feels inclusive, inspiring, and most importantly, fun. The kind of environment that reminds you why you started skating in the first place.

Even though I have never actually lived in Truro, the park has always felt like home. It is where I learned so many of my beginner skills, my first ollie and my first proper attempts at transition. The halfpipe is perfect for building confidence, and there is plenty of flat ground to drill the basics until they finally click. So many small wins happened there.

From a passing glance through a train window to a place that shaped my skating journey, Truro Skatepark will always mean more to me than just concrete and coping.

Queer & Transkaters Night

This February Queer + Transkaters are taking over BAYSIXTY6 Skatepark for their monthly night, and it’s one not to miss. We’re talking a welcoming space for skaters of all abilities to roll, hang out, and meet new friends.

The session is on Friday 13th February from 7 to 10pm, and if you’ve been wanting to try skating or rollerskating, they’ve got you covered with free lessons — just drop them a DM to book. There’s also free protective gear hire, skateboard hire, and a skate shop on site, so you can just turn up and get rolling.

Tickets are available via the link in bio or on the door. Thanks to Not A Phase, entry is free for trans+ skaters, with £8 for queer skaters.

The Scottish Open

The 2026 skate season kicks off in style with the Scottish Open at The Loading Bay Glasgow on 14th and 15th February. Both street and park competitions are on the cards with £4K up for grabs over the weekend, plenty of reason to get hyped.

Skaters, take note! Happy Idiot Clothing are teaming up with HOP KING for a skate jam featuring Cash 4 Tricks and a host of other prizes. It’s shaping up to be a fun day for the community with plenty of chances to show off your skills.

Rock Solid Dist Skateboard Community OPEN HOUSE

Skateboarders in Bristol have a lot to look forward to on Sunday 22nd February with the Skateboard Community Open House at Shredenhams. Doors open at 12pm and tickets are free via the link in @rocksoliddist bio.

The Open House is shaping up to be an inclusive space for the skate community, bringing together brands, distributors, artists, publishers, and charities all under one roof. Expect a mix of a trade show, skate jam, workshops, live activations, and plenty of opportunities to connect with other skaters.

Attendees can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Vans Skate, video premieres from Vans Skate and Bagheadcrew’s Repent, and live art from Jon Horner with Neil Blender style caricatures supporting Skate Pal, Richtpaint painting live, and Max1000000_ airbrushing T-shirts. You can even bring your own designs to get customised. Music will be provided by Luggs Band.

This event is 18+ and promises a full day of skating, creativity, and community in Bristol.

F51 Girls Night

Skaters, mark your calendars for Wednesday 25th February because Girls Night is back at Folkestone 51 from 6 to 9pm. Tickets are £7.

Despite the name, this is not just a girls only event — everyone is welcome to roll through and join the fun. The night will feature coaching from Ashford Scorcha Skateschool and Shusanta Rai so whether you want tips tricks or just a good time on wheels this session has it all.

It is also a special Galentine’s edition bringing the community together for a welcoming supportive and fun evening of skating.
